About Romsey Chamber Orchestra

The orchestra’s first performance was the 2019 ‘New Beginnings’ concert in Romsey Abbey as part of the Town Mayor’s fundraising campaign and it was fortunate that the Mayor also agreed to become the Patron of this newly formed orchestra. This was followed by a very well received inaugural concert in March 2019 and later that year by ‘Music for a Summer Afternoon’ in the Town Hall and a St Andrews day concert featuring Mendelssohn’s lyric overture The Hebrides.

During the Covid lockdowns the orchestra managed weekly playing sessions on Zoom, playing together briefly again in the Autumn of 2020 before once again having to stop. Socially distanced rehearsals recommenced in May 2021. We performed our first post-lockdown concert in December 2021. Since our Spring 2022 concert we have been performing Sunday afternoon concerts. We are also trialling the replacement of our usual £10 ticket price with free entry and a retiring collection to encourage the undecided to come in and ‘pay as you find’. We would welcome any feedback on these approaches.

The RCO rehearses on Wednesday evenings at The Romsey School from 19:30 – 21:30. It is affiliated to Making Music, the UK’s leading organization for leisure time music.  If you are interested in finding out more about the orchestra as a player or would like to be included on its concert mailing list then please send an email to: romsey.orchestra@gmail.com
